Our show is easy to get to by road from all over the North, and from the Midlands too with York (the City) and the Racecourse fully signed with both permanent and temporary AA show signing. So firstly, the sat-nav dilemma; if you do choose to use your sat-nav the venue's address is York Racecourse, Racecourse Road, YORK YO23 1EX. However we strongly recommend that all attendees follow the signposted routes to the venue. They may not be the shortest but they will help you avoid congestion in York City Centre.

Suggested approach routes
The main routes from the South are M1 (or A1) - A1M (Junc 45) - A64 - A1036*
From the west; M62 - M1 northbound - A1M (Junc 45) - A64 - A1036*
From the East of York use the A64, A1079 or A19 respectively then the A64 York Eastern Bypass heading towards Leeds, then A1036*
From the North East - A19 - York Western By pass A1237 - A64 east - A1036*
From Scotland and Cumbria use A1M to Junc 47 - A59 eastbound - A1237 southbound (York Western By pass) - A64 east - A1036*
All A1036 - Once on the A1036 head into York. The road layout after leaving the A64 has changed recently and your sat nav map may therefore be misleading. Either follow the tformely signed route, now with town centre signing, until you see the grassed, open area of the Knavesmire on your right. At the foot of the dip turn right onto Knavesmire Road and approach the Racecourse area. Alternatively at the first set of traffic lights by then petrol station follow the now signposted route to ther Racecourse. You will be on the other green route as per the map below. Carry on over the A64 bridge, then turn left into Church Lane, left again into Bishopthorpe Road and after passing the fomer Terry's factory building then left again into Campleshon Road.

Map of York environs showing location of racecourse relative to other main roads. Please use the signed approaches.
The routes to the Racecourse via the York Inner Ring Road are not recommended although they can be used for access if you know the route.
Map courtesy of York Racecourse. As expected York Racecourse have their own web site. including an interactive guide to the course and buildings. Unfortunately their new interactive map is less useful than the previous pdf for visitors to non-racing events. To view a Multimap/Bing road map of York centred close to our venue. Once loaded map scale can be changed to to get wider view of the area. Multimap/Bing road map
Parking / Park & Ride options
On street parking in the South Bank residential area of York is tight and you don't need to use it. Parking for over 800 cars is available free of charge. Disabled parking will continue to be available close to the main entrance to the Show. However there is usually a car boot sale on the Saturday and therefore parking varies according to the day you arrive/other events on the Racecourse site:-
SATURDAY - Visitors traveling to us by car on Saturday should note a major car boot sale is also often held using one of the main racecourse car-parks. Unless signed otherwise "on the day" the Saturday car parking is expected to be on the Knavesmire with access from "the Triangle". Please do not attempt to park behind the stands on Saturday as there will be no spaces available. Please park where advised by the staff on duty.
SUNDAY & MONDAY - On the Sunday and Monday the larger Car Park should be available which is much closer to the Show. On these days please do drive along the road behind the stands to this park. Please park where advised by the staff on duty.
Park and ride options - If you are traveling to York with a party including non-model railway orientated members you have the option of using P&R into the City from the north and then the Show shuttle bus out to the Knavesmire. (Visitors from the north or north east - The service from Rawcliffe Bar drops off/picks up in Station Rise) Alternatively park in our free car parking facilities and the remaining members of the party can use the Show link into York. Visitors from outside the N/N East should note that the York outer bypass (Northern section) near the A19/A1237 roundabout at Rawcliffe Bar does get very busy at peak/holiday times. Easter disruptions -
Are there any relevant Network Rail Engineering works this year? - There are some timetable changes for Easter 2011 on some routes to/from York. This interactive page on the National Rail Enquiries web site allows you to check if any works/timetable changes are on your intended route for any day over the Easter holiday period. (Section as updated 12th April 2011)
Exhibition bus link - For those arriving by rail, coach or service bus an exhibition bus link operates from York Railway Station. The pick-up at York Railway Station should be on the opposite side of the road to the station entrance by the old waiting shelter as it has been in previous years. Vehicles will be from Transdev, formerly Top Line Travel, so the paint livery may differ compared to that of your last visit. The bus link is not restricted to show visitors and may be used by other family members to go into York from the Knavesmire while you come in and enjoy the show. (Fare not included in Show price) The Bus Service will commence at 9.15 am and then every 15/30 minutes until 15 minutes after the Show closes.

East Midlands Trains (Incorporating the former Midland Mainline franchise) - this company offers a very limited service between London (St Pancras) and York but the Saturday morning northbound service from, and associated evening return to St Pancras, may be of use to our visitors from intermediate stations. This service appears to be running as normal, both ways, on Easter Saturday in 2011. (Section updated 13th April '11)
Regional / local train services
(1) Northern Rail - Operate local trains to York from Leeds, Harrogate, Selby, Hull etc. Northern Rail's Network Map (Pdf) Users of the map are warned it is NOT an easy to navigate option, partly as it is diagrammatic not geographic in layout but also because lines not used by Northern are omitted, rather than shown in grey, so York is not obvious to find!!!. Changes - Easter 2011 = Bustitution on the Sheffield - York services for all or part of jounrney with replacement timetable in place. Monday - nothing showing for trains serving York. Several other changes accross their network may alter connections. (Section updated 13th April '11)
(2) First Transpennine Express - Operate trains to York from Lancashire (via Leeds), Manchester Airport and from the North East including Thirsk and Scarborough. First Transpennine have a "Trains to York" overview page but our previous link to their route map deleted as it is no longer available on their web site.
