Traveling by road Traveling by rail Traveling by air Independent guide to getting to York Local bus service info. All that's best in QUALITY MODEL RAILWAYS AT THE NORTH'S FRIENDLY SHOW Easter wouldn't be Easter without the North's Finescale Model Railway Show
Our show is easy to get to by road from all over the North, and from the Midlands too with York (the City) and the Racecourse fully signed with both permanent and temporary AA show signing. So firstly, the sat-nav dilemma; if you do choose to use your sat-nav the venue's address is York Racecourse, Racecourse Road, YORK YO23 1EX. However we strongly recommend that all attendees follow the signposted routes to the venue. They may not be the shortest but they will help you avoid congestion in York City Centre.
Known ongoing major roadworks (Data below as for 2010 - 2011 update TBC nearer the event date)
Roads approaching York - Travellers are advised to check the latest roadwatch information. Drivers coming into York from the Harrogate or Boroughbridge areas, or planning to exit the A1(M) at Junc 47 to approach York on the A59, are in particular advised to check that the NYCC roadworks on the A59 at Nun Monkton did conclude on time. Last day of works programmed for Friday 2nd April so these works have potential to delay exhibitors arriving on the Friday set-up day but should be concluded for the public opening on Saturday 3rd.
Roads in York City - Although they are not on the recommended routes to the Show there are currenly known roadworks on the A19 at Fulford and in Gillygate on the York Inner Ringroad. Both are set to be completed by our Show opening date of Saturday 3rd April. (See York City Council's travel to York information page). Gillygate set to reopen for Good Friday 2nd April. However the Fulford work's last day appears to be scheduled as Good Friday so of note for any Exhibitors coming in for the Friday set up day

Map of York environs showing location of racecourse relative to other main roads. Knavesmire Road is recommended and this is the centre of the three green roads shown and the one just above the racecourse as marked. It is the one that will be signed with the usual temporary event direction signs. The access leaving the A1036 adjacent to the 6 on the map and that from the York Inner Ring Road are not recommended although they can be used for access if you know the route. They will not be signed.
Map courtesy of York Racecourse. As expected York Racecourse have their own web site. including an interactive guide to the course and buildings. Unfortunately their new interactive map is less useful than the previous pdf for visitors to non-racing events. To view a Multimap road map of York centred close to our venue. Once loaded map scale can be changed to to get wider view of the area. Multimap road map
Parking / Park & Ride options (Data below as for 2010 - 2011 update TBC nearer the event date)
On street parking in the South Bank residential area of York is tight and you don't need to use it. Parking for over 800 cars is available free of charge. Disabled parking will continue to be available close to the main entrance to the Show. However there is usually a car boot sale on the Saturday and therefore parking varies according to the day you arrive/other events on the Racecourse site:-
SATURDAY - Visitors traveling to us by car on Satruday should note a major car boot sale is also usually held using one of the main racecouse car-parks. Unless signed otherwise "on the day" the Saturday car parking is expected to be on the Knavesmire with access from "the Triangle". Please do not attempt to park behind the stands on Saturday as there will be no spaces available. Please park where advised by the staff on duty.
SUNDAY & MONDAY - On the Sunday and Monday the larger Car Park should be available which is much closer to the Show. On these days please do drive along the road behind the stands to this park. Please park where advised by the staff on duty.
Park and ride options - If you are traveling to York with a party including non-model railway orientated members you have the option of using P&R into the City from the north and then the Show shuttle bus out to the Knavesmire. (Visitors from the north or north east - The service from Rawcliffe Bar drops off/picks up in Station Rise) Alternatively park in our free car parking facilities and the remaining members of the party can use the Show link into York. Visitors from outside the N/N East should note that the York outer bypass (Northern section) near the A19/A1237 roundabout at Rawcliffe Bar does get very busy at peak/holiday times. Easter disruptions -
1) Are there any relevant Network Rail Engineering works this year? - This interactive page on the National Rail Enquiries website allows you to check for works/timetable changes on your intended route for any day over the Easter holiday period. (Link newly added for 2010)
2) RMT Dispute - Not until after Easter, commences early on Tuesday 6th April. (Note in the event this was postponed)
Exhibition bus link -For those arriving by rail, coach or service bus an exhibition bus link operates from York Railway Station. The pick-up at York Railway Station should be on the opposite side of the road to the station entrance by the old waiting shelter as it has been in previous years. Vehicles will be from Transdev, formerly Top Line Travel, so the paint livery may differ compared to that of your last visit. The bus link is not restricted to show visitors and may be used by other family members to go into York from the Knavesmire while you come in and enjoy the show. (Fare not included in Show price) The Bus Service will commence at 9.15 am and then every 15/30 minutes until 15 minutes after the Show closes. . (Section to be rechecked for the 2011 show)

(1) Northern Rail - Operate local trains to York from Leeds, Harrogate, Selby, Hull etc. Northern Rail's Network Map (Pdf) Users of the map are warned it is NOT an easy to navigate option, partly as it is diagramatic not geogrpahic in layout but also because lines not used by Northern are omitted, rather tnan shown in grey, so York is not obvious to find!!!.
